German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder said Wednesday the Ukrainian presidential election had been marred by "massive fraud" and called for a peaceful resolution to the crisis. Schröder cited a report by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) finding widespread irregularities in Sunday's run-off election and expressed concern about mounting tensions in the country. "We all have an interest in the situation not getting out of control. I would like to contribute however I can so the situation can be resolved peacefully," he said. German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer said Tuesday there was "justified doubt over the official results of the run-off in the presidential elections" and demanded that the "Ukrainian government, together with the OSCE, check the electoral and vote-counting procedure and make the necessary corrections."
