Mikhail Efimovich Shvydkoy has been President of the Russian Television Academy Foundation and Special Envoy of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cultural Cooperation since 2008. He is the writer and presenter of the television shows “Zhizn’ Prekrasna” (Life is Beautiful), “Kulturnaya Revolyutsia” (Cultural Revolution) and “Priyut Komediantov” (Comedians’ Refuge).

Shvydkoy is also a theater specialist and majored in theater studies at the State Institute of Theatrical Arts. From 1973 to 1990 he worked for “Teatr” magazine, as correspondent, senior editor, executive secretary and ultimately as deputy chief editor. From 1991 to 1993 he was the director of “Kultura” publishing house, after which he served as Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation (1993-1997).

In 1997 and 1998, Shvydkoy was chief editor and deputy chairman of the All-Russian State Television and Broadcasting Company and founder of the channel “Kultura”, which became one of Russian television's most successful projects. In 1999 he was awarded the Russian Federation State Prize for his organizational and creative work for the channel.

For two years after that, he was chairman of the company. From 2000 to 2004, Shvydkoy served as Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation. He then became the director of the Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography for four years.

Shvydkoy is a member of several unions for creative professions, including the Russian Writers' Union, Theater Workers' Union and the Journalists' Union.

He is a doctor of art history, professor and member of the Academy of Humanities.
