The CEO of German electronics giant Siemens, Heinrich von Pierer, has reportedly admonished Germans to shake off their complacency and make more of an effort to get the country’s sluggish economy restarted. “We’ve all unfortunately become a little too content and that’s something we need to fight,” he told the mass-circulation Bild newspaper in an interview. He said people should be prepared to work on Saturday without receiving a pay bonus and that companies should take greater responsibility for their success instead of blaming the high cost of doing business in Germany. Von Pierer also said both trade unions and companies needed to stop complaining and should help implement German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder’s Agenda 2010 reform packet.
