World Cup heroes Miroslav Klose and Michael Ballack scored the goals Thursday as Germany overwhelmed Asian champions Japan 3-0 in the opener of their three-game Asian tour. The Germans dominated the first ever encounter between the two countries from the outset. Germany kept threatening the Japanese goal, mixing long passes from both sides of the pitch with shorter ones to repeatedly breach the home team's defensive line. "I am satisfied with all of our players," said German coach Jürgen Klinsmann. "The players shared the same purpose and each one of them knew what to do. I was sure scoring was only a matter of time." It was a test for Germany, who have no qualifying matches for the 2006 World Cup as the host country. The Germans were to fly to Busan right after the match for their second leg against 2002 World Cup semi-finalists South Korea. They will also play against Thailand during their tour of the region.
