Brazil is a solar energy pioneer in Latin America. The country’s biggest photovoltaic facility is a unique one: it generates 600 MWh, but unlike other solar plants, it’s located on top of the Estádio de Pituaçu, a football stadium in Salvador de Bahia. The facility produces more electricity than the stadium actually consumes, and it is a model for the rest of the country – especially with Brazil preparing to host the next World Cup in 2014. There are plans to install solar roofs on further stadiums. Sascha Quaiser shows us how it's meant to work.
