Sixteen of 17 people arrested in connection with last week's blast in the heart of Istanbul's historic Sultanahmet neighborhood went before a Turkish court on Sunday to face charges, state media Anatolia Agency reported.

Prosecutors are charging the 16 suspects with "being a member of a terrorist organization."

Another individual under the age of 18 is still being processed by the prosecutor's office.

Turkish and German authorities say the suicide bomber was a Syrian affiliated with the so-called "Islamic State" (IS) group. The terror organization has not yet claimed responsibility.
