Textiles Research - fashion made of milk

December 23, 2013

A biologist and fashion designer from Hanover has developed a new non-allergenic textile from a surprising source - casein. The protein found in milk can be isolated from waste products from the cheese industry, or from milk that is not fit for human consumption.

A research institute in Bremen has helped the fashion designer turn casein into a fiber that can be used to make fabrics. Now they are working on boosting production to a more industrial scale. The first fashion collection tailored from milk-based fabrics has already hit the catwalk.
