The African digital revolution: Who has been left out?

Africa is the continent with the biggest growth of online and mobile users. But as we are more than half way through the African Women's Decade which was launched in October 2010 in Nairobi, Kenya, we have to ask ourselves: Are women advancing triumphantly into Africa's digital future, too? Studies prove that limited internet access and digital literacy is a roadblock to gender equality, preventing women from claiming their rights. Will Africa's digital future replicate and entrench existing inequalities? Or will it help advance the value of women in society?
