Together with the Staatskanzlei NRW, PWC, and MediaRoad, Global Media Forum (GMF) launched boot camp format to the help take media start-ups to the next level. During the boot camp, media start-ups from all over the world came together for two days of training, one day of preparation and an opportunity for the finalists to pitch their project at the end.

Dr. Ashkan Kalantary, NextLevel Director at PWC Germany
Ashkan leads PwC's start-up and venture capital practice as Director at PwC Europe. To help start-ups solve their scaling and fundraising challenges, he initiated two programs designed to push them to the next level: "Scale" and "Raise." Scale focuses on getting start-ups ready to scale and work together with big corporations while Raise helps them get investor-ready for their Series A round.

Danijel Visevic, Director of Communications at Project A
Project A is an international venture capital firm based in Berlin that invests in passionate early-stage entrepreneurs and provides them with exclusive access to 100 experts. Danijel supports Project A's ventures with communications strategies, content creation, and PR. Before building up his department (A Com), Danijel worked as a journalist for RTL, Deutsche Welle, and Krautreporter.

Ellen Schuster, Head of Digital Programming at DW
Ellen worked for UNHCR and other international organizations until she joined DW in 2001. As a reporter, she worked in DW's economics department until joining DW Akademie - the international broadcaster's hub for international media development. Since 2014, Ellen has been focusing on new technologies and trends in journalism.

Joachim Vranken, CEO Upmarket GmbH
Joachim is a serial entrepreneur and avid networker. In 2005, he founded kalaydo.de - Germany’s largest regional classifieds marketplace. Since then, he has been active as a dedicated networker, investor and start-up mentor. He has also been supporting DMEXCO, one of the largest Tech-Events in Europe, since 2017.

Peter Richarz, Managing Partner at Dieter von Holtzbrinck Ventures GmbH
Peter is a passionate entrepreneur and tech investor. He has more than 20 years of experience in venture capital. Since 2011, Peter is partner at Cologne-based company builder "Crossventures" and co-founder of design-bestseller.de, one of the fastest-growing e-commerce platforms for design furniture. Peter is also co-initiator and managing partner of Dieter von Holtzbrinck Ventures in Cologne.

Simone Jost-Westendorf, Head of Vor Ort NRW
Vor Ort NRW is the journalism lab of "Landesanstalt für Medien NRW" - the state authority in charge of supporting local media in North Rhine-Westphalia. Based in Düsseldorf, Vor Ort NRW funds innovative journalism and helps media start-ups in the state to set up businesses and create innovative and user-centered media products.
The jury consisted of international investors, and for the winner, the prize included:
- extensive reporting on the winning start-up on our DW-platforms
- two days of media training tailored to the needs of the winner from the DW Akademie
- The opportunity to present the start-up during the GMF on May 28
Our jury reviewed and invited the most promising applicants to join the Global Media Forum 2019 in Bonn. Invited participants received a full conference ticket (worth €299) and a refund of travel and hotel expenses as well.
Global Media Forum
The Global Media Forum is hosted by Deutsche Welle and its partners. The conference offers a unique opportunity to connect and strengthen relations with over 2,000 inspiring representatives from the fields of journalism, digital media, politics, culture, business, development, academia and civil society.

Constanze Abratzky, Project Manager at DW Academy
Constanze worked several years as a political correspondent and presenter. She now focuses on project development and is organizing journalistic and management training courses for international radio and TV station staff. She is also organizing and conducting sessions in media training, coaching and consultancy in public relations as well as media skills.

Dominik Weihs, PwC New Ventures
As a corporate consultant at the New Ventures division, Domink is scaling international digital products for PwC. His focus as an organizational psychologist is directed toward mental processes like perception, conviction and motivation. In his marketing classes, he talks about the creation and targeted stimulation of emotions, with customer-specific utilization of non-verbal communication.

Dr. Florian P. Neubert, Senior Consultant at PwC
Florian works at PwC's Management Consulting division. He advises corporations and start-ups on the development of innovative digital business models, consistently placing the user at the center of his activities. This subject-related and methodological focus is on innovation management. Florian holds a PhD in innovation management and innovative business models in the energy industry.

Julia Beregovaja, PwC NextLevel
Julia is part of the NextLevel team at PwC in Berlin. Her responsibilities include coaching and supporting the start-up participants of the PwC Scale and PwC Raise program, as well as managing PwC's internal start-up expert community. She studied business law at the Berlin School of Economics and Law, and focuses on corporate and labor legislation, data protection, and insolvency law among others.

Katharina Götzen, Real Estate Consult at PwC
Katharina works as a consultant in the Real Estate consulting team of PwC in Berlin. Her main responsibilities include digitization projects of corporations. This year, she runs PwC’s Scale PropTech program to propel business models of selected start-ups to the next level. Prior to joining PwC, Katharina completed her Master's Studies in Berlin in real estate and facilities management.

Luisa Canton, PwC Transactions
Luisa works as financial advisor within the start-up environment at PwC Stuttgart. She is experienced in advising young companies in their fundraising processes, with a special focus on business modelling and valuation of growing companies. Prior moving to Stuttgart, she was part of the PwC team in Hanover, where she worked closely with large German companies.

Paulo Fernandes, PwC NextLevel
Paulo, as a corporate consultant at PwC, brings together corporations and start-ups, helping both sides to achieve their goals. He previously worked as an IT consultant on transformation and efficiency enhancement projects, both nationally and internationally. He focuses on the use of new technologies to increase the efficiency of work processes and the development of sustainable business models.
