At the Talent Campus, the world's biggest workshop for young filmmakers, DW-TV has become a household name with our "Making of" project. With the support of the Talent Campus organisers and its sponsors our own DW-TV video crew was again on location during the entire week of the Campus (11.-16.02.06) capturing the highlights and observing the young hopefuls learning from some of the most famous professionals in the trade. Our team, which includes over twenty reporters, young media trainees and their coaches, produced a daily video report documenting the work in progress. The screenings of these "Dailies" in the big auditorium are always eagerly awaited by the over 500 Campus participants from 100 countries.
Prize for Young Talent
Another fantastic opportunity for young filmmakers looking for a break is the "Berlin Today Award" (BTA), which is organised by the Berlinale Talent Campus in co-operation with the Media Board Berlin-Brandenburg and film companies based in Berlin and Brandenburg. Every year participants of the Talent Campus are able to enter this competition with a short film dealing with present-day Berlin. Now in its third year, this international newcomer prize is traditionally awarded on the opening evening of the Talent Campus. The winner for 2006 is Anna Azevedo from Brazil. Her touching documentary "BerlinBall" is about a boy from Campina Grande, the hometown of Herta BSC Berlin soccer star Marcelinho, who strives to emulate his hero. After a week of shooting in Brazil Anna Azevedo also went to Berlin to keep tracks with Marcelinho and his present life as one of Germany’s most popular soccer players. The runners-up are two very different short films: "If You Need Me" was the first animated film to be nominated. The main character is a beer-bellied angel who lives in the Victory Column, one of Berlin's most famous landmarks. "Under These Wings" reflects on a young woman’s hopes and dreams the night the Berlin Wall came down. DW-TV has been the official media partner of the the "Berlin Today Award" (BTA) ever since it was founded in 2003. DW-TV‘s documentary segment "In Focus" profiles the people behind the nominated projects and shows the winning film in full length.
