Toll Collect Holds Hopes for New Start Date

The toll consortium Toll Collect said it would still be able to meet its planned January 1 start date, despite continuing problems. All technical requirements for the introduction of truck tolls have been provided, said a spokesman for the company. However, the consortium is worried about the fact that so far only 45,000 trucks have been equipped with devices that track the tolls. The toll collection system was supposed to have been launched a year ago, but the original system, developed by Deutsche Telekom and DaimlerChrysler was scrapped due to technical problems. The company has since delayed the start twice.
