Traces of the Past: China

Shanghai provided a lifeline for about 18,000 German Jews in the 1930s. But those rescued were soon in danger once again, when the Japanese occupied the city and, as allies of the Nazi regime, began hunting them down. It was a dramatic time - few reminders of which remain today.
