"Thirty-two [bodies] have been pulled out from the coach," Madhusudan Sarma, a senior administrative officer in Nellore district, told AFP news agency.

The fire broke out on the train near Nellore, in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

District Collector B. Sridha said the train stopped after fire in one coach was noticed by an official at a railroad station on Monday. He said a short circuit was believed to be the root cause, noting that the fire had been put out.

At least 22 others are believed to have been injured.
