Seattle helicopter crash

Two people have been killed and one injured in a helicopter crash in the US city of Seattle. The helicopter, owned by news channel KOMO-TV, fell to the ground meters from the city's landmark Space Needle.

Reports said the news helicopter crashed into at least two cars following a failed takeoff during morning rush hour on Tuesday morning.

The Seattle Fire Department confirmed on Twitter that two people inside the aircraft were killed.

A spokesman for the department said a third person was taken to hospital in a critical condition and was being treated for burns.

The 37-year-old reportedly managed to free himself from a car stuck under the helicopter.

The fire department spokesman said no other bodies had been found inside the wreckage.

No has been no immediate confirmation on what caused the crash.

KOMO-TV station said the helicopter was thought to have been lifting off from its rooftop when it possibly hit the side of the Seattle Space Needle itself or a nearby building and went down.

The television station has its offices close to the 184-meter observation tower.

The area around the crash will remain sealed off until at least Wednesday while investigations are carried out.
