World's longest three-rope car cable system opens in Vietnam

Until recently, the only way to reach Vietnam's highest peak, the Fansipan Mountain, was a grueling two-day climb. Now visitors can zip up to the summit in 15 minutes by cable car.

Should you chose to ride the 6,292-meter cable car route, you'll need a head for heights as it ascends 1,410 meters, taking visitors from the Muong Hoa Valley to the top of Fansipan Mountain.

At 3,143 meters above sea level, Fansipan is known as the "roof of Indochina." Each cable car is capable of carrying up to 35 passengers, and the whole system can transport up to 2,000 tourists per hour.

Fansipan Mountain is in Lao Cai province, near the Chinese border. The nearest town in Vietnam is Sapa, a popular destination for tourists. The UNESCO World Heritage Site "Area of the Old Carved Stone" is also found in the region.
