Voluntary Judges

April 25, 2013

Armin Beckmann is a farmer and Christa Grothe a teacher. Both are from the German state of Lower Saxony and both work as lay judges in court. As unpaid magistrates, with no judicial training, they decide together with professional judges on the guilt and sentencing of the accused. There are around 60,000 such jurors in Germany.
