Why rose hips are so healthy!

January 24, 2017

Temperatures are turning colder in the northern hemisphere, and that means the cold and flu season. This is the time to boost our immune systems to keep the sniffles at bay. Rose hips are a good way to do it.

The rose hip is the fruit of the rose plant. Once the rose has bloomed, and all the petals have fallen away, the hips remain. They have many uses. Rose hips are a good source of vitamin C - they contain 50% more of it than most citrus fruits, broccoli and kiwis. Besides the vitamin C, they're rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B3 and K. They can be eaten raw or as jelly or used to make tea. Their high vitamin C content makes them ideal for boosting the immune system, which makes rose hips well suited to preventing or soothing colds.
