Former Germany international striker Miroslav Klose has confirmed he will stay with Serie A side Lazio for another 12 monhts.

The 37-year-old's deal in Rome will end summer 2016 rather than this close season. Klose, who has played for Bayern Munich, Werder Bremen and Kaiserslautern, signed for the two-time Italian champions in 2011 and has invoked a clause in his contract to add an extra season to his present deal by playing more than 20 games.

"Another year in Lazio is a decision that I've taken with all my heart," he said in an official statement.

"My family and I feel very comfortable in Rome and at Lazio. The fans here are fantastic."

Helping Lazio to third in Serie A, and earning a crack at the Champions League, Klose scored 13 goals in 34 games in the league and netted another three on the road to the Italian Cup final, where his side went down to Champions League finalists Juventus.

"I'm very proud of this season," he added.

In 137 games for Germany's national team, the striker scored 71 goals and is the highest-scoring player at World Cup finals with 16 strikes at four tournaments.
