The accordion has been the most important instrument in traditional music of southern Brazil. But in recent decades, the popularity of accordions and accordion music has declined there. Most young people now prefer modern music - and accordions used to be considered old fashioned and a bit stuffy. That spurred an accomplished musician into action who started an unexpected accordion revival.
