World in Progress: Morocco's taboo of sex out of wedlock

In Morocco, being unmarried and pregnant is an extremely difficult situation to be in. Sex out of wedlock is taboo, considered a violation of family honor, and is even punishable by law. Young women who wind up pregnant are seen as "damaged goods" and many are rejected by their families. One women’s rights activist has been fighting for over 30 years to change the system.
