Deep in the northwest of New Zealand lies one of the last patches of native kauri forest. Called the Waipoua Forest, it has some of the world's most breathtaking trees that grow up to 50 metres tall and have a girth of up to 16 metres. The most famous of these is Tane Mahuta, or 'The Lord of the Forest', believed to be about 2500 years old. Through colonization and climate change, it still stands.
