Yu-Shan Wu is a full-time researcher at the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA). She works within the Global Powers and Africa Programme, which seeks to understand the complexity of foreign power engagement in Africa. She has a background in international relations (M.A.) and media studies (B.A.), and previously worked at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), a public broadcaster. Her research interests include emerging-country public diplomacy and the social implications of China-Africa relations. Her current work focuses on China’s state media in Africa and the political and diplomatic implications of social media based on the case studies of China and South Africa.
