Sénégal-Iles Canaries: la fin de la filière clandestine

La situation s'améliore sur l'archipel espagnol des Canaries, une des portes d'entrée des immigrés africains en Espagne.

Mansour Seck like some 20,000 other West African illegal migrants this year, has tried to go beyond the Spanish Canary Islands, in the hopes of reaching mainland Spain. Frustrated by the limited opportunities at home, Seck sold his house and left his wife and children in May on a fishing vessel in the hopes of reaching mainland Spain. On his second attempt, the unemployed fisherman, father of two, embarked on the journey with his eight brothers and 83 other passengers in a fishing vessel, before having to return due to problems with the boat. En 2006 on y avait dénombré un record de quelques 31 000 clandestins subsahariens. Le chiffre est tombé à 1318 au premier trimestre 2009. Et s'il faut en croire les autorités de Dakar, les arrestations de clandestins partis du Sénégal depuis janvier serait seulement de 33... Elisabeth Cadot a demandé au directeur exécutif adjoint de FRONTEX, l'agence européenne de surveillance des frontières, Arias Fernandez s'il confirmait ce chiffre et pourquoi cette baisse encourageante.
