Afghan, Pakistani presidents meet in Istanbul

Mkutano huo kati ya Rais Hamid Karzai wa Afghanistan na mwenziye wa Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, unakuja siku chache tu kabla ya kufanyika kwa mkutano wa kimataifa, utakaofanyika London, Uingereza, wenye lengo la kuhamasisha maendeleo ya Afghanistan.

Rais wa Uturuki Abdullah Gul, ndio mwenyeji wa mkutano wa Istanbul, ambao pia utahudhuriwa na Wakuu wa majeshi na vyombo vya Usalama vya Afghanistan na Pakistan.

Tayari Rais Gul amekutana kwa mazungumzo na Rais Karzai, ambaye yuko mjini Istanbul kama kituo chake cha kwanza katika kutafuta kuungwa mkono na msaada wa fedha kwa ajili ya serikali yake, kabla ya kuelekea Berlin, Ujerumani na baadaye Uingereza.

Viongozi hao wamekutana mapema leo na kwamba Rais Gul atafanya pia mazungumzo na Rais wa Pakistan Asif Zardari kabla ya viongozi hao watatu kufungua mkutano huo.

Rais Gul kesho pia atakuwa mwenyeji wa mkutano utakaozijumuisha nchi jirani na Afghanistan, kuzungumzia njia za kuisaidia nchi hiyo iliyokumbwa na vita, kujiimarisha.

Mkutano huo wa kesho una madhumuni ya kuzihimiza nchi kushughulikia matatizo ya kanda yao, kuliko kuziachia zaidi nchi za magharibi na pia kusisitizia haja ya kuunga mkono juhudi za kijeshi dhidi ya Taliban kwa hatua za kiuchumi na kijamii.

Uhusiano kati ya Kabul na Islamabad umekuwa wa mashaka, wakati ambao majimbo ya kaskazini magharibi mwa Pakistan yamekuwa ngome ya watu wenye misimamo mikali ambao wameikimbia Afghanistan, baada ya uvamizi uliofanywa na Marekani kuung'oa utawala wa Taliban mwishoni mwa mwaka 2001.
