picture made available on 29 July 2009 shows the general view of cargo freighters on the Yangon River and the BoTaTaung Pagoda in BoTaTaung Township, Yangon, Myanmar, 28 July 2009. A verdict in the trial of Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi for violating the terms of her house arrest is expected on 31 July. Suu Kyi, who has been confined for 14 of the past 20 years, faces an additional three to five years of detention for breaching the terms of her house arrest for allegedly allowing John William Yettaw, a US national to stay, after he swam to her house-cum-prison on 03 May and stayed there until 05 May. Suu Kyi's two housekeepers, Khin Win and Win Ma Ma, are also on trial. EU nations and the United States have stepped up sanctions against Myanmar to exert pressure to release the Nobel peace prize winner and other poltical prisoners, but critics say sanctions have little effect in changing the military juntas actions.
