Selling Arms to China?

It is not a good policy to lift the EU's arms embargo against China. Its human rights record has not improved. China's number one industry is its defense at the expense of its poor rural population and forced "one child" policies. To lift the embargo is a green light to China to keep its hegemonic policies toward Tibet as well as the tensions it creates toward Taiwan. -- Frank, US

The US can sell weapons to anybody it likes, including very high-tech arms to Taiwan. But it wants to control weapons which other countries sell. What a ridiculous and hypocritical stand. As a matter of fact, the US wants to control the lives of everyone, including the Europeans. Just only two years ago, the US used all sorts of excuses to wage war in Iraq and tried to bully Europeans who were against them. Europe's non-support for this was fully justified in recent events. Faced with setbacks, the US is now trying new tactics in approaching Europe. The EU must stand up firmly against all US attempts to try controlling Europe's interests. -- John Lee

EU should not lift its arm embargo against China because China is a threat to the world, Asia especially. China repeatedly violated territorial water of Vietnam, Japan, Philippines, Malaysia, and other countries. EU and the world must not sell arms to China. -- Cuong Nguyen

It is not wrong to consider lifting the arms embargo. I think Washington is very sensitive, because in the future it will have to deal with a Europe that will be brother, not child to the US. The second concern is China's rise to a world power. Now America is superior as concerns military know-how and strength, but that could change were China to establish a very efficient military army. Peace for all is the only solutions if we want to live together in harmony. -- Elisabeth Heptner
