Board Member, Transparency International, Munich, Germany
Caspar von Hauenschild retired in 2002 after 30 years in rock-solid banking. During his career he worked at Société Générale in Paris, at Citibank with assignments as a corporate banker in Frankfurt, Stuttgart, London and Hamburg, and at Bayerische Vereinsbank in Munich. At Bayerische Vereinsbank he was executive director and also became an advisor to the German government on matters of trade, finance and export guarantees as a member of the interministerial committee, IMA ("Interministerieller Ausschuss").
His professional life started after high school in 1967 with a banking apprenticeship that lasted two years. After graduating with an MBA from the University of Cologne in 1973, he decided to travel from Mexico to Brazil in six months with two trousers and five shirts in his backpack, which he considers probably the most important educational experience in his life.
Since his retirement, von Hauenschild regards his position as an executive director at Transparency International as his most challenging responsibility.
Von Hauenschild has been married for 38 years to a teacher of Spanish and French and has two children.
