Wolfsburg made the announcement about Gustavo's transfer in a statement on its website Friday, saying Gustavo's transfer from Bayern Munich was complete and effective immediately.

The 26-year-old midfielder had joined Bayern Munich in 2011. He was used both as a starter and frequent sub in last year's campaign that saw Bayern win the league, cup, and Champions League titles.

According to German media, the transfer fee is believed to be in the neighborhood of 20 million euros ($26 million). The Premier League club Arsenal had also expressed interest in obtaining Gustavo.

Gustavo started his Bundesliga career with Hoffenheim in 2007 and has 11 caps for the Brazilian national team.

Wolfsburg's next Bundesliga match is Saturday against Schalke, but it is unclear if the team's new signing will feature in the line-up.
