Tim Wiese heads to Hoffenheim

The backup goalie for the German national team, Tim Wiese, is set to play for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga next season. Wiese was at Werder Bremen for seven years and will likely be on Germany's roster for the Euro 2012.

Tim Wiese, who played backup goalkeeper to Manuel Neuer on Germany's 2010 World Cup squad in South Africa, will play for Hoffenheim next season in the Bundesliga.

Wiese's contract with his current club, Werder Bremen, was set to expire this summer. He joined the club in 2005 and the team won the German Cup in 2009.

Hoffenheim's contract with Wiese runs until June 2016. The team said it paid no transfer fee.

"The chance to get such an experienced, successful, and ambitious player was one we did not want to miss," said Hoffenheim's coach Markus Babbel in a statement on the team's website. "I'm convinced he'll be a large factor in reaching the goals we have set."

Wiese had previously said his agent was in contact with Real Madrid regarding a possible transfer.
