Head of South Asia Service, Deutsche Welle, Germany
Grahame Lucas has been Head of the South Asia Department since 2007 and is responsible for output in Bengali, Hindi, Urdu and English for Asia. After nearly a decade as a DW correspondent in Bonn and Brussels, Grahame was appointed Head of News and Current Affairs in the English Service in 2000 becoming Deputy Head in 2001. His main focus at present is the restructuring of the South Asia Department. Initially a short wave radio operation, the department now focuses on multimedia output: Internet services with text and pictures as well as video and audio output. The goal is to provide objective and impartial information for South Asia in a variety of different formats along with in-depth coverage of Germany and Europe. At the present time Grahame is developing WomenTalkOnline, an interactive blogging platform where women in South Asia can discuss and debate women's issues. The project has been online since April 2012 and has already become a popular online meeting place. Moreover, Grahame is currently working on the third edition of Deutsche Welle's Manual of Journalism. The book was previously published in 2006 and 2010. Publication is scheduled for early 2013.
